Call for Senior Editor at 'The Lancet'

The Lancet, one of the world’s most respected medical journals, seeks a Senior Editor to join its team of physicians and scientists at the weekly journal. In this role, you will be responsible for commissioning a weekly World Report (News feature) section, and taking part in peer review and selection of primary research articles and review material. You will also be involved in other aspects of the journal’s varied work, such as commissioning and writing.
Core roles are to contribute to the success of The Lancet through in-depth involvement in the peer review process and pre-acceptance decision taking and leading, either with a small team or alone and often with supervisory oversight, the management of one or more journal sections.

Requirements: ideally a PhD together with post-doctoral research experience; editorial experience would be an asset; able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; excellent communication and organisation and co-ordination skills; sound general knowledge and broad medical knowledge with clinical and research experience and familiarity with desktop publishing and web submission systems such as the Incopy and EES, and with the use of databases such as PubMed and internet search engines; possession of great flexibility and willingness to stand in for others working in different journal sections if needed.
