The WBG Youth Summit is an annual event held by the World Bank Group (WBG) to engage with youth globally on the most pressing development issues facing their generation. This year’s Youth Summit will take place on 25 and 26 May 2023 with a hybrid format.
The objectives of the Summit are to (1) empower youth to explore innovative ideas for tackling development challenges, (2) provide youth with the tools to build and engage in impactful projects, and (3) promote dialogue between youth, the WBG, and other key stakeholders globally.
The theme for the 2023 Summit is “From the Ground Up: Local Solutions to Drive Global Impact”. The 2023 WBG Youth Summit is dedicated to ensuring development solutions are generated locally, elevated globally, and scaled cross-regionally.
One of the flagship components of the Youth Summit, the Pitch Competition, is a call for innovative and action-oriented solutions from young people to address some of the world's most pressing challenges through grassroots local solutions with the potential to make a global impact.
This year, the Youth Summit welcomes submissions from all individuals and/or teams that address at least one of the three pillars of development goals:
(a) Fragility, conflict, and violence-affected locations;
(b) Climate change, including energy security and transition; or
(c) Financial security through employment and skill development.
The pitches can be submitted in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish; and the competition is open for anyone between the age of 18-35 years. The submissions will be evaluated on pre-defined criteria, post which 6 finalists will be shortlisted for presentation. These finalists will have the opportunity to connect with global problem-solvers in the impact space, including public and private sector leaders across social, environmental, and economic inclusion landscapes. In addition, finalists will receive tailored mentoring from seasoned VCs before the final presentation. One member from each of the finalist teams will also receive fully funded travel (subject to COVID and logistical constrains) and stay to WBG HQ during the Youth Summit to present their project at the competition. The winner will receive certification and awards, as well as admission into a pre-accelerator bootcamp at a top university in the US.
Deadline: Saturday 11 March 2023
