CIMA Research grants

Deadlines: 13 November 2020 (Topic Specific) / 28 August 2020 (Seedcorn Funding)

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants®

CIMA provides three different kinds of research grant - Topic Specific, Ad-hoc (currently on hold) and Seedcorn.

Topic Specific

Grants of up to GBP 30,000 are available to experienced research teams globally to undertake research into specific areas of management accounting.

In 2020 CIMA is launching a two stage call for proposals on the following broad topics.

  • The links between management accounting concerns and practices and contemporary developments in technology (e.g., big data, blockchain, social media, machine learning, artificial intelligence).
  • The links between management accounting concerns and practices and contemporary developments in climate change reporting and sustainability.

The second stage, open from July 1, will offer up to £30,000 to experienced researchers. Applications will close on 13 November 2020.

Seedcorn Funding

There are two types of seedcorn funding available, with amounts of up to GBP 7,500 available.

Early career research grants are for:

  • Researchers with experience only as research assistants.
  • Those without previous funding awards.
  • Those who have not previously acted as a principal researcher

Feasibility study grants are for:

  • Experienced researchers with an idea that they want to develop.
  • Researchers to undertake feasibility studies as a preliminary to in-depth empirical research.

2020 seedcorn call is now open with grants of up to £7,500 available for proposals on the topics of:

  • The links between management accounting concerns and practices and contemporary developments in technology (e.g., big data, blockchain, social media, machine learning, artificial intelligence).
  • The links between management accounting concerns and practices and contemporary developments in climate change reporting and sustainability.

The closing date for applications is Friday 28 August 2020.
