PhD positions in international programme on epigenetics research, in Germany and the UK - EpiCrossBorders

Deadline: 15 Oct. 2021

The Epigenetics Across Borders: International Helmholtz-Edinburgh Research School for Epigenetics or 'EpiCrossBorders' is a new research school program which will be the next step in the development of the Helmholtz International Epigenetics Research School, and is made possible by the collaboration between the epigenetics@HMGU and Edinburgh communities from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology, MRC Human Genetics Unit and Centre for Regenerative Medicine.

The EpiCrossBorders Research School Program is a truly international and interdisciplinary PhD program centered on epigenetics research at Helmholtz Zentrum München HMGU, in Munich, Germany and the Edinburgh University in Edinburgh, UK. The new Program provides an optimal research and training environment for graduate students to conduct their PhD research in the field of epigenetics. Research excellence within the host teams of both communities is complemented with a dedicated training and exchange program and support structure, creating an environment in which academically and technically gifted individuals can excel to achieve their professional goals and develop their future career.

Graduate Projects in the EpiCrossBorders Program are true international collaborations between labs in Munich and Edinburgh centered on the 'One Health' approach. In addition the Graduate Projects are designed to contribute to one or more of their five central themes:

  • Epigenetics Research from Single Cells to Human Health
  • Quantitative approaches to study epigenetic phenomena
  • Climate Change and Environmental Stress and its impact on Epigenetics processes
  • Implementing Biomedical Artificial Intelligence
  • Providing a Concrete Framework for Translational Opportunities

Applicants should hold a University Master’s degree (MSc or equivalent) to apply, with a strong background in biological sciences, (bio)chemistry, biomedicine computer science or related discipline, have excellent English language skills and a strong interest in an international PhD program. Your MSc degree has to include a Master Thesis on a scientific project.

Applicants still studying for their Master's degree may provide a provisional certificate or bona fide statement from the University stating the marks already obtained and estimated graduation date. Applicants accepted in the program are required to have completed their Master's degree before they can start their PhD work in the program. Applicants accepted within the program have to start their PhD work latest in fall 2022.

If you wish to apply with a four year BSc degree (equivalent to 240 ECTS), without an MSc, please contact the Research School Office directly.

Deadline: 15 October 2021
